Country Life Natural Foods came to PostPilot in 2023, looking for an additional retargeting and retention channel, a way to add a non-digital touchpoint, and to beat the “digital firehose.” The team is now using direct mail in a variety of ways, including to drive customers to sign up for their membership program, Country Life Plus, and to leave Google Reviews.
The Tactic: Sending larger (6x9) postcards that drive customers to sign up for their membership program, Country Life Plus. Sent to customers who purchased in the last 3 months and ordered more than twice.
The Postcard:
The Tactic: Sending handwritten thank-you cards to all customers who spent more than $100 on their first purchase. Sent 14 days after first purchase.
Team Note: We love the copy in this one because it encourages the customer to “keep this card near your fridge.” Direct mail already has staying power and tends to hang around on desks, tables, and, yes, fridges. But Mitchell is on the money here (literally) and is doubling down on that customer behavior. Plus, it’s a great move to actually include a customer service number. Incredible loyalty-building play. 10/10. A+.
The Postcard:
The Tactic: Sending postcards featuring vegetarian alternatives to Thanksgiving classics. Sent to customers who purchased specific vegetarian products, all-time. Featuring meat alternatives on the back.
The Postcard:
The Tactic: Dynamically sending postcards to cart abandoners who had never purchased before. Sent out 5 days after the customer added an item to cart.
The Postcard:
The Tactic: Sending postcards to customers who last purchased between 365 and 730 days ago and had only purchased once.
The Postcard:
The Tactic: Automatically sending customers postcards that offer a free cookbook via QR code in exchange for leaving a Google Review. Sent to high spenders (total spend greater than $1500) who have purchased more than 3 times.
Team Note: This is a use case we’d love to see more brands do because it nails two goals with one postcard. It accomplishes a fundamental goal for many brands (driving reviews), and it serves as a reminder to repurchase, like any other winback mailer. And, of course, it works extremely well on both fronts. The free giveaway is an on-brand, chef’s kiss addition.
